Guests had an opportunity to chat, exchange stories and enjoy the occasion.

Prof David Killingray spoke on the history of Anglo-Ethiopian relations focusing on the contributions of Ethiopians to Britain and that of Britons to Ethiopia. The notable examples he pointed out were Hakim Worqenah (see Peter Garretson, A Victorian Gentleman & Ethiopian Nationalist: the life and times of Hakim Warqenah, Dr Charles Martin, Woodbridge, James Currey, 2012) and the Pankhursts (Sylvia and her son Richard in particular).

Dr Desta Heliso introduced the vision and mission of SOPHOS AFRICA and the ideas that underlie the organisation’s strategies and activities

HE Ambassador Teferi Melesse, Ambassador of Ethiopia to the UK, made a very fitting opening remark.

Mr Alastair Michell-Baker, a member of the SOPHOS AFRICA Advisory Council in Europe, closed the event in prayer.

Guests also enjoyed delicious Ethiopian cuisine! 

Mr Chris Reveley, Chair of SOPHOS AFRICA UK and Master of the Ceremony (MC), welcomed the guests, introduced the programme and speakers, and opened the event in prayer

Dr Michael Nazir-Ali spoke on the characteristics of ethnic and religious extremism and how it contributes to societal disharmony, violence and poverty.

ኢትዮጵያን ጨምሮ በተለያዩ የአፍሪካ ሀገሮች የሚከሰቱ ዘርፈ ብዙ ችግሮችን ለመፍታት በጥናትና በሀገር በቀል እውቀት ላይ የተመሰረተ መፍትሄ ያስፈልጋል ተባለ (ግንቦት 06 ቀን 2014ዓ/ም አዲስ አበባ): መቀመጫውን በእንግሊዝ ያደረገውና በትውልደ ኢትዮጵያዊው ዶ/ር ደስታ ሄሊሶ መስራችነት የተቋቋመው ሶፎስ /ጥበብ/ መንግስታዊ ያልሆነ የጥናትና ምርምር ድርጅት በይፋ ስራውን ጀምሯል፡፡ ለንደን በሚገኘው የኢትዮጵያ ኤምባሲ በተካሄደ ስነስርአት ላይ በዩናይትድ ኪንግደም የኢትዮጵያ ባለሙሉ ስልጣን አምባሳደር ተፈሪ መለሰ እንደተናገሩት ሶፎስ አፍሪካ መቀመጫውን ኢትዮጵያ በማድረግ ተመሳሳይ ተግባራት በአፍሪካ ሀገሮች ላይ ጭምር እንደሚያደርግ ተናግረዋል፡፡ አክለውም በጥናት እና ሀገር በቀል አውቀት ላይ ተመስርቶ የማህበረሰብን የሞራል እሴቶች ለማጎልበት፣በሀይማኖት ፣ በግብረገብነት ፣ በትምህርት እና በምርምር ስራ ላይ ማትኮር ጤናማ ማህበረሰብን ለመገንባት ከፍተኛ ሚና ይኖረዋል ብለዋል፡፡የሶፎስ አፍሪካ መስራች ትውልደ ኢትዮጵያዊው ዶ/ር ደስታ ሄሊሶ በበኩላቸው ሶፎስ አፍሪካ ኢትዮጵያ የገጠማትን ስብራት መሰረታዊ ምንነትና መንስኤ ላይ ጥናት በማድረግ የመፍትሄ ሀሳቦችን በማመንጨት ህብረተሰቡ ለአዎንታዊ ለውጥ ዝግጁ እንዲሆን ማድረግ ያስችላል ብለዋል፡፡ ሶፎስ አፍሪካ አዲስ አስተሳሰብና አሰራር እሳቤን በማዳበር ኢትዮጵያን ጨምሮ የአፍሪካ ሀገሮችን ተብትቦ የያዘውን የሙስና ፣ የሀይማኖት አክራሪነት ፣ እንዲሁም የጎሳና የአክራሪ ብሄርተኝነት በማሰወገድ ህብረተሰቡ የጋራ እሴቶችን በመገንባት ተካብብሮና ተቻችሎ እንዲኖር ድርጅቱ እንደሚሰራ ተናግረዋል፡።   Read More . . .
